Israel pledges technological support to boost Benue State’s education sector

The Israeli government has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing education in Benue State through innovative technology solutions.
Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Freeman, made this pledge during a visit to the Bureau for Education and Quality Assurance (BEQA) headquarters in Makurdi on Friday.
Accompanied by Governor Hyacinth Alia, Freeman commended BEQA’s efforts in improving learning standards across the state.
He emphasized Israel’s readiness to collaborate with Benue in deploying modern educational technology to enhance teaching and learning outcomes.
Governor Alia emphasized that the establishment of BEQA aligns with his administration’s vision for a transformed education sector. He praised the bureau’s Director-General, Terna Francis, and his team for their dedication and the significant progress achieved in a short period.
In his remarks, Francis stated that the visit was a continuation of ongoing discussions with the ambassador on Israel’s role in leveraging technology for efficient school monitoring and evaluation.
He noted that poor learning outcomes in the state were partly due to inadequate supervision of teachers, leading to truancy.
“The proposed technology will enhance monitoring processes without requiring physical presence in the field, ultimately improving teaching quality and learning outcomes,” Francis explained.
He added that the visit underscored the governor’s commitment to strengthening education at both basic and post-basic levels. The expected partnership with Israel is projected to significantly improve education standards in Benue.
During the visit, Francis led the delegation on an inspection of BEQA’s offices, explaining the bureau’s critical role in evaluating and standardizing education across the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that BEQA is responsible for the monitoring, evaluation, and standardization of schools in Benue. Under Francis’ leadership, the agency has inspected approximately 1,680 schools within the last 15 months.
