Water scarcity worsens, Otukpo residents left with just muddy water

The water crisis in Otukpo, Benue State, has reached critical levels, forcing residents to rely on muddy pools and unsafe sources. With wells and streams drying up, cases of cholera and typhoid are rising.

At the heart of the crisis is the long-abandoned Otobi Water Works, a facility that once supplied clean water but has suffered years of neglect. Efforts by individuals like philanthropist Mohammed Odeh Adah and lawmaker Angbo Kennedy have provided temporary relief, but the demand remains overwhelming.

The Benue State government has acknowledged the crisis, promising to rehabilitate the Otobi Water Works to restore supply.
